Barnacle's Market

There is a harbor seal at the end of the harbour wall who has been watching people his whole life, and has opinions about what a seal ought to wear.

0 sand dollars in your pocket.

"Twenty species. All right, you are serious. Have a look around."
How sand dollars work. DNA is for learning, and there is a fixed amount of it in this archive. Sand dollars are different. You earn them by looking after the seals you already have. Rubbing a belly pays 5, and feeding a seal pays 2. Barnacle takes nothing else, so if you want the crown you are going to have to spend some time in the tank.

What is for sale

Buy a costume once and you own it for good. You can put the same one on as many of your seals as you like, and change your mind whenever you want.

Everything on the stall comes to 375 sand dollars. Dress your seals from the roster under your aquarium.

About the shopkeeper

Why a harbor seal?

Barnacle is a harbor seal, which is the species you are most likely to have met and the most widespread seal on Earth. They ring the entire Northern Hemisphere, hauling out on rocks in Maine, sandbars in the Netherlands, glacial ice in Alaska and quiet coves in Japan.

They are also famously nosy. A harbor seal will surface a little way off, look directly at you, and keep looking. Fishermen have complained about it for centuries. If any seal was going to set up a shop and pass judgement on your taste in hats, it was always going to be this one.

He lies in the banana pose behind the counter, head and tail both lifted off the cold stone. That is not showing off, it is thermoregulation, and you can read the rest of it in his file.
